How SLG Works

From mine to mobile wallet

The complete journey from gold deposit to digital token — transparent, verifiable, and accessible from any mobile phone.

The Complete Journey

Five steps from gold
to digital currency

Every step is recorded permanently on the Stellar blockchain. Every step is verifiable by the miner, the BSL, and any independent auditor.

1
Step One · Physical

Bring your gold to the NMA-licensed vault

The miner or cooperative brings gold to the SiLeone Gold partner vault in Koidu Town, Kono District. The vault operator weighs the gold and submits it for an NMA assay — a chemical analysis that certifies the gold's purity to .999 fine standard.

What happens on the blockchain: The NMA Assay Certificate number and the gold weight (in troy ounces × 10⁶ for precision) are recorded on the Stellar blockchain by the vault operator. This record is permanent and cannot be altered. No token can ever be created without a valid assay hash.
2
Step Two · Digital

SLG tokens are minted to your wallet

The smart contract oracle reads the assay hash, verifies the custodian's cryptographic signature, checks the reserve state, and mints exactly the right number of SLG tokens. 1 SLG is always 0.001 troy oz of .999 fine gold — no more, no less.

Supply cap: No more than 50,000 SLG can exist in Phase 1. Every token minted reduces the available supply. The governance contract enforces this cap and requires a 3-of-5 multisig vote with a 48-hour time-lock to change routine parameters such as fee rates and oracle keys. Changing the cap itself — a contract upgrade — requires a 4-of-5 supermajority with a 7-day public time-lock and mandatory GitHub disclosure.

Step Three · Mobile

Use your SLG via *747# from any phone

The miner dials *747# on any mobile phone — basic Nokia, Android, iPhone — on any network. The USSD menu appears instantly, with no internet connection required. They can check their balance, send SLG to another miner, or begin a redemption.

USSD explained: USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) is a protocol built into every mobile network. It requires only a SIM card with signal — no data, no credit balance, no smartphone. It is used by billions of people across Africa for banking and payments.
4
Step Four · Peer to Peer

Send SLG to another wallet instantly

SLG transfers between wallets settle on the Stellar blockchain in 3–5 seconds. A 0.5% transaction fee is shown on screen before the miner confirms. The fee in SLG terms is always displayed, not in SLE, so there is no confusion about the cost.

Remittance use case: A Sierra Leonean in London can send SLG directly to a cooperative member's *747# wallet. The recipient can immediately check the balance or redeem for SLE cash. No remittance agent, no 5–8% fee, no 3-day wait.
5
Step Five · Redemption

Redeem for physical gold or SLE cash

The miner can redeem SLG at any time through the *747# menu. Physical gold collection from the vault takes 5 business days. SLE cash conversion through mobile money takes up to 2 hours. A 0.25% redemption fee applies in both cases.

Consumer protection: The gold backing every SLG token belongs to the miner, not to SiLeone Gold. If SiLeone Gold ceases operations for any reason, a wind-down agent processes all redemptions over a minimum 90-day period. This guarantee is irrevocable and supervised by the BSL.

Two transparent fees.
No hidden costs.

Both fees are hardcoded into the smart contract on the Stellar blockchain. They cannot be changed without a 3-of-5 governance vote with a 48-hour time-lock — fully visible to the BSL. A contract upgrade to the fee logic itself would require the higher bar: a 4-of-5 supermajority and a 7-day public time-lock.

0.5%
Peer-to-Peer Transfer Fee

Applied when you send SLG from your wallet to another wallet. Shown in full on screen before you confirm. Compared to 5–8% for traditional remittance services.

Example: Sending 1,000 SLG costs 5 SLG. Recipient receives 995 SLG.
0.25%
Redemption Fee

Applied when you convert SLG back to physical gold or SLE mobile money. The lowest redemption fee of any gold-backed instrument in West Africa.

Example: Redeeming 1,000 SLG costs 2.5 SLG. You receive 997.5 SLG worth of gold or SLE cash.

Three independent layers
of security

No single point of failure. No single key that can compromise the system. Every layer is independently verifiable.

01

Cryptographic custody oracle

Every reserve update is signed with the custodian's Ed25519 private key. The oracle contract verifies this signature before accepting any data. If the key is lost or stolen, an attacker cannot publish false reserve data — the signature will fail.

02

Two-tier governance multisig

No single person can change any parameter in the system. The smart contract specification defines two tiers of governance protection. Routine parameter changes — fee rates, oracle keys, custodian whitelist — require 3-of-5 multisig with a mandatory 48-hour time-lock. Contract code upgrades require a higher bar: 4-of-5 supermajority approval with a 7-day public time-lock and mandatory GitHub disclosure before any change takes effect. The BSL holds an observer key with real-time visibility of all proposals at both tiers.

03

NMA assay gate

The token contract's mint function will not execute without a valid NMA Assay Certificate hash that has not been used before. This check is hardcoded into the Rust source code and cannot be bypassed by any external call, including from the governance contract.
